The following is an excerpt from an update by Eric Hedeen at Malaumanda...
In this culture not many people will stand up and do much of anything by
themselves; especially women. Sunday, a lady by the name of Ewa talked to
the teachers right before the service and told them that she wanted to sing
a song. So right after a portion of the teaching was finished they motioned
to her that it was time. She got up, walked slowly to the front. She was
VERY nervous. Her jaw was quivering and she sure looked uncomfortable up
there. I started praying. Her voice started out a bit shaky at first but
strengthened as the first song went on. She sang a song about God telling
Adam and Eve about the coming Deliverer and then another song about Jesus
the deliverer that came for us.
It is always hard to figure out what motivates a person to do what they
do, but as I sat there and listened to Ewa I came to realize that God was
the only explanation for this. He is working in Ewa's life in ways that we
may not always see. She was willing to go way outside of her comfort zone
and that tells me something. The Faith and obedience that we want to see in
their lives is not without evidence. We're just thankful for the opportunity
to be a part of what God is doing here. Please rejoice along with us as you
have a part as well. |
...Ewa was a very helpful source of information when Jeff was investigating
some of the female aspects of Malaumanda culture. Rejoice with us in how the
Lord is working in her life.
Title: Undefeated Season!

It started off a lesson in patience. Two veteran players were lost
for the season. Two managers were pulled onto the team to fill an 11 man
roster. 7 of the 11 had never even been on a basketball team before. But
the boys came together well and finished undefeated for the season. During
the season they defeating two men's teams and had two overtime wins! Jeff
had a great time coaching them. It was a lesson in what hard work can
produce and the positive effect of what true team work can accomplish!
Prayer Needs:
- Grant continues to struggle with a severe case of Mono. Pray he'll
be able to regain strength soon. He has been absent the entire 3rd quarter
of the school year and has lost a great deal of weight.
- Pray as Jeff & Joy continue to seek the Lord regarding the future
and how the Lord would have them involved in the ministry after furlough.
- Pray Jordan will finish his senior year in a positive way in all
areas. He is still open to what the Lord will have for his future.
- The Malaumanda people continue to show spiritual growth in their
lives. Pray as the work continues.
