Challenge

2006 @ 329.76 sec.

Happy 2006! It is our hope that this year will result in greater spiritual renewal for all of us and that we will experience the Lord’s presence in our lives in a greater and more fulfilling way than ever before.

How about a challenge? Prayer is the act of communicating our dependence on God and asking His help in the issues of life. In the area of missions the world over we need both. Will you endeavor to pray for missions and missionary purposes each day? At just under 330 seconds of prayer a day you would pray 2006 specific prayer minutes for missions this year. Imagine how that could assist in the work of the Gospel around the world!

This generation!

Bible sessions, singing, sports, food & crazy games—-a young adult retreat.

We spent our New Years weekend at a retreat for young adults. Activity and sleeplessness abounded! We’ve concluded we are getting old! It was a great time and we rejoice for the opportunity to mingle with and speak to the future torch bearers of this generation. Jeff spoke in 5 sessions, Joy in two. Many commitments were made to further deepen relationships with the Lord and to represent Him with greater faithfulness in the coming year.

In a culture where young people are searching for something of meaning and purpose these young people have a great opportunity. Let’s pray for them.

Prayer Needs

Jordan will begin classes at New Tribes Bible Institute this month. Pray for his adjustment and growth.Grant & Lindsay doing well in school and enjoying basketball season.

As teenagers, pray they will maintain a consistent walk with the Lord.

Furlough has had many challenges thus far. We expect them to continue in 2006. Pray for faithfulness in the tasks at hand.

E-Update sent January 20, 2006

Hi! Sunday, Joy and I returned from taking Jordan to New Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, Wisconsin. At this writing he has been in classes for 4 days. He is adjusting. NTBI is a private Bible school that offers a two year Bible program that immerses its students in the Word while emphasizing missions. Though it is the first step in the 4 year training program that New Tribes Mission offers for its missionary candidates it does not necessarily indicate that Jordan is "signing up" for a missionary career with NTM. What it does communicate is his desire to grasp some deeper truths in the Word of God. It is also a good atmosphere for which he can begin to be an independent young man. We are praying that he will grow in all areas and mature as a young man and as a follower of Jesus Christ. No doubt the Lord will also provide him with direction regarding his future as well.

These days Jordan is eagerly pursuing a job. He desperately needs to find something soon to enable him to keep up with the financial demands. Because NTBI is staffed by missionary personnel from NTM there is no tuition fee but there are room, board, book and processing fees that he need to funded. We are praying that he will find work that will accommodate these needs but in a job that will provide optimal opportunity to study as well. Please pray with us regarding this need for Jordan.

Two fellow students I'd also like to mention are Kees (pronounced "Case") Vanderhout and Zack Cestare. Kees is from Holland and was one of our dorm kids in PNG. He stayed with us for two weeks prior to his departure to NTBI. Being that is not American and here on a student visa he cannot work a regular job. He'll need the Lord's financial provision as well. Zack is from a church in the Pittsburgh area and attended the weekly Bible study at our home. Because of his interest in missions, I encouraged him to consider some Bible training. He jumped at the possibility to attend NTBI. He is looking for permanent work as well.

Though our whole family misses Jordan being around, we are all doing well. Grant and Lindsay are busy into the second semester in school and finishing up the basketball season. Joy continues to deal with her health issues but always finds ways to encourage others. I will be very busy this month in preparing some material for some upcoming speaking engagements.

We are grateful for your continued interest and prayer for our family. I trust the New Year is progressing well for you and honoring your commitments to serve Him. Have a good weekend.

Jeff
